GREATER LONDON
Klezma Villanova are a four, sometimes five, sometimes eight, sometimes nine piece from West London. The band formed in 2007 out of the creative cauldron which is the Twickenham music scene and carved out a reputation for their unique gypsy inspired sound. The music maybe influenced from Eastern Europe and Asia but they always maintain a distinctive English, possibly Twickenham, twist.
They released their first EP in December 2009 which saw Rob Skipper from the Musical Differences stepping into join them on fiddle. The EP was released on miniature Turkish woven rugs, aptly imported from a “Man from Istanbul”. The release has secured the band a raft of great gigs and a host of festivals over the coming summer. A new EP will be released to coincide with the River Rat Pack tour in late August. The band will have no problems putting on their sea legs as they are renowned for the infamous boat parties on Eel Pie Island.
Harrison Prescot (Drums) and Dave Miller (Bass) provide a wonderfully thumping and organic rhythm section for Joe Whitney-Fish (Guitar) and Ryan Dunphy (Lead Vocals) to overlay their gypsy inspired beauty and madness. The songs swing from foot stomping power and rasping rawness to delicate folk touches and sweetly crafted harmonies. If you are lucky you might see them with a few other friends from the Blisters and East of Ealing who make up the Klezma family!
